BEAKER

Legendary late-90s Oxford indie group Beaker are to play the thunderbolt for the first time

The all-female group garnered a loyal following during the heady days of the late-90s Oxford rock scene.

Despite not having performed together since 1999, band members were brought together by the tragic death of bassist Kim Parsons in 2023. The mutual support they provided to each other in a time of sadness rekindled #social and musical relationships, and inevitably led to talk of getting the old band together.

The band will be formed by original members Clare, Teresa, and Sam, and they will be joined by the wonderful Hayley Wright on bass, formerly of Harry Angel and the fabulous Emma Hunter, who really needs no introduction as she is her own musical sensation

The Mice' aren't terribly influenced by modern bands, and instead have a retro sound taking inspiration from classic bands like the Beatles, the sex pistols, Roxy Music, the Clash, Madness, and even Phil Spector, combining them together to create their own unique sound. The Loft, original Creation Records legends, set out on a UK tour next March in support of their forthcoming, ‘debut’ album.

The original line up of Pete Astor, Dave Morgan, Bill Prince and Andy Strickland, embark on their first ever UK club tour, 40 years after the classic ‘Up The Hill And Down The Slope’, topped the indie singles chart.

Since their infamous onstage split at the Hammersmith Palais in ‘85, their status as one of the UK’s most influential guitar bands of the 80s continues to grow and to influence a host of younger artists.

“It’s incredibly exciting to not only be setting out on tour again, but now with a brand new set of songs to play alongside some of our, ahem, ‘greatest hits’, says drummer, Dave Morgan.

“The Loft has always been just the same four people and it’s a real thrill to be playing across the UK with the band again. We’re sounding better than ever…”
